Rocked By Resignations

Liberalia faces one of its worst crises ever. The region seems to be disintegrating from within. Following the resignation of Farlane, administrator and Guardian Council member one month earlier, the government has experienced the resignation of five of its most prominent members. Farlane and Timberlake have left Liberalia for good, but the others are hoped to remain.

Timberlake, regional administrator and Minister of Foreign Affairs, resigned twice in two weeks. First over the uncertain trust he held within the region, and later over the actions of one of Liberalia’s joint Prime Ministers, Soccersian. Soccersian carried out unsupported diplomacy with members of The Serenade. A long-time annoyance of Liberalia, The Serenade is home to many of Liberalia’s banished criminals or less respected members. Soccersian reportedly held discussions on the forums of The Serenade about offering a peace treaty or allowing members of The Serenade to return to Liberalia.

All other members resigned over this same reason. In a cascading wave of resignations, Ardalia resigned as Director of Public Prosecutions and Services Minister. Feeling personally attacked and upset over Soccersian’s rogue attitude, Carops resigned his post as Defense Minister. Random Textbox Inputs resigned as Secretariat of Recruitment, expressing the inability to recruit single handedly and the unwillingness of all Liberalian nations to help. Following suit, Haelhan resigned as Information Minister. All cited Soccersian’s actions in regards to The Serenade as their main reason for leaving. These simultaneous acts of protest occurred one after another yesterday. Looking down the list of topics in the Liberalia Parliament, one would think that nothing else is happening in Liberalia.

In a rather unorthodox move, Cooperative People, the Parliament Speaker, called for a revote of the bill “Recreational Marijuana Use Act” after discrepancies between the poll and declared votes. She reasoned that there was no bill that states which is to be taken as the official count, and therefore the bill needed to be voted upon again. Curiaistan, former Parliament Speaker, pointed out that precedent had set the issue, and that the declared votes were the only ones that mattered. Cooperative People noted this but decided to continue with the revote until the proper legislation could be amended. The other joint Prime Minister, Fernetti, declared the revote void and closed the thread stating "There has never been a past situation where we re-voted simply because people did not declare their votes. Some members have expressed disquiet at this turn of events.

It is possible that such an action should only be decided upon by a petition through the Supreme Court, which would have the Guardian Council evaluate and rule on the issue. Prime Ministers acting independently of the other branches of government is a topic of highest concern throughout Liberalia right now.

Unrelated to the other incidents, False Light has withdrawn from the United Nations, leaving Liberalia temporarily without a regional delegate. If nothing changes from the time of this writing, Kaliaris is set to become the new regional delegate, although Fishyguy is campaigning for the position as well.

Resignations are not limited to individuals either. Once Liberalia’s largest political party, the Moderate Party has seen a gradual wind down. Many expressed their remorse after Carops announced that the party would be shutting down after eight months of service. The Moderate party was able to place three Prime Ministers into office and worked to create much of what Liberalia is today.

Where Liberalia is headed is unknown. Regional membership is dropping and forum participation has slipped considerably since the August elections. If Liberalia has any strength in unity, it will surely be tested over the next few weeks. All Liberalians are encouraged to stay optimistic, focused, and determined to ride out the rough times. Without your participation, this region may never recover. Stick to the dreams of the Christmas Revolution, and to the ongoing cultural revolution in our region. Long live Liberalia!
